What Is VRAM?

Why memory capacity matters at 1440p and 4K — and when more VRAM does not help.

VRAM is the dedicated memory on your graphics card. Textures, framebuffers, and compute buffers live there while a game or app is running.

Running out of VRAM causes stuttering, texture pop-in, or crashes — especially at higher resolutions and with mods.

8GB is acceptable for 1080p today. 12–16GB is safer for 1440p. 16GB+ is preferred for 4K, heavy mods, and creative work.
